Meet guest Spotlight Stephanie Nielsen ! Owner and editor in chief of The Tangerine Desert.

Introduce yourself: who you are and what you do?

I’m Stephanie Nielsen. An East Coast raised chick in her mid twenties now living her own California dream. I am an engineer by trade but more importantly to me, the owner and editor in chief of The Tangerine Desert.

What inspired you to start The Tangerine Desert?2Q9A8478

I was inspired to start a style blog back in 2011. I had friends in college who would consistently ask me to borrow clothes or to help in what to wear. My closet was never filled with expensive things or super popular brands, just the essentials I think every girl needs along with some killer accent pieces. I took this concept and my passion for spontaneous adventure and started writing about it. The name comes from my favorite sunset ever in Sedona, Arizona where the desert lit up in this jaw dropping orange color bouncing off the red rocks.

What are your favorite summer wardrobe staples?

I have three favorite summer wardrobe staples. The first is a cotton sleeveless romper, perfect for over a bathing suit or throwing on for an easy outfit for those on the go travel days. The second staple is a simple platform sandal. Summer is about adventures and being comfortable no matter where you are. A platform sandal can go from beach to a night out easily. The last summer staple I have in my wardrobe right now is a killer one piece that can double as a bodysuit. Bodysuits are hot right now and how practical is it to have a one piece suit that can be versatile under some high-waist denim shorts or at the beach!

Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world this summer?

If I could travel anywhere this summer… hmm I have such a huge list of places I want to go to this is tough. At this very moment, I would love to travel the Greek Islands or Croatia. I’m picturing white breezy clothes, a sail boat and stunning blue water… Maybe some fresh caught fish for dinner.

147What’s your favorite travel story:)

My favorite travel story is definitely the last time I went to Quebec. The day after Christmas, a night time train ride from Old Town Quebec to Montreal turned out to be a magical experience when we decided to upgrade to first class for only $30. Our private dining booth came complete with dinner, adult beverages and a gigantic picture window with a snow covered view resembling something out of a Wes Anderson movie.

What’s on your summer bucket list?

My summer bucket list to get an apartment by the beach here in Los Angeles, a boat trip to Catalina Island for a weekend of hiking and beach camping, and road trip to Ft. Collins Colorado for “tent city” family reunion of 50.

What’s your favorite place you’ve ever been?

My favorite place I’ve ever been is Phuket, Thailand. Thailand is a spiritual adventure if you’ll let it be.

Denim JacketWhat are some of your current favorite fashion trends?

Any advice for someone looking to start their own blog?

If you’re looking to start your own blog definitely take any advice you can get. By now, there is a winning formula for bloggers and a quick google search can answer most of your questions. If I could go back and tell the younger me some advice, it would be to figure out how to make money off your website sooner.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years I hope to be completely self employed and to take The TD to a whole new level, to really make a living off of what I love, feeling good in what you wear and wanderlust. I’m picturing an office with a beach view and maybe a couple more fur babies running around!
